Lash Extension FAQs

What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?

Eyelash extensions are single synthetic/man-made lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to (but not touching) the lash line with a semi-permanent bonding adhesive. A single extension, or up to 5-7 super fine extensions is applied to a single isolated lash, leaving the eyelashes and eyelids to move freely. They are applied carefully, one by one using specially designed tweezers. The whole process normally takes 1 – 2.5 hours depending on how many lashes are applied and the set type.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

As long as five/six weeks – as the eyelash extension generally lasts until the natural lash falls out in its natural cycle. However, if you wish to maintain them, it is advisable to have infills applied approximately every 2 – 4 weeks (depending on how well you take care of them and your natural lash cycle), as by this stage some would have fallen out as new lashes have grown through. How long your eyelash extensions last depends almost entirely on how you care for them (i.e. by removing makeup correctly, not wearing mascara, not using oily products on your face, and not tugging/pulling at your eyelash extensions). Some clients who take extra good care of their lashes get 4+ weeks before they need infills!

Why do I need infills if they last up to six weeks?

The eyelash extensions fall out with your natural lash cycle – which is 6-8 weeks, so very gradually – just a few here and there as new baby lashes come through. After 2 or 3 weeks you will start seeing little gaps where the old ones have fallen, and new ones are coming through – so at this point it’s a good time to get infills, so your lashes always look nice and full.

What's the difference between classic lashes vs. Volume/3D lashes?
Classic lashes are one individual extension on one natural lash. 3D/Volume techniques allow us to apply multiple extensions to one isolated natural lash. The "Russian Volume/3D" technique masterfully achieves this with far thinner lashes than typically used for Classic application. The result is a full lush lash line that appears fluffy and soft while also maintaining the health and safety of our clients natural lashes.
Volume lashes are prefect for clients who don't have a lot of lashes, have sparse lashes, bald spots or just want a more dramatic look without having to use a thicker lash.
This new technique has only been made possible thanks to recent technological advancements in the lash extensions manufacturing process, which has enabled manufacturers to create super LIGHT and super FINE extensions.
In fact, these extensions are so light, that 5 x 0.07 thickness (Volume Lash) extensions PUT TOGETHER weigh less than 1 x 0.20 thickness (Standard Classic Lash) extension on it own. So you know that the lashes will never be too heavy for your natural lash to handle.

Do eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes?
No – we apply eyelash extensions taking special care to ensure that they are all applied individually and correctly to maintain your eyelash health. To ensure the ongoing health of your lashes, we highly recommend that you take the advice of the technician regarding the maximum thickness and length that would be appropriate long-term for your natural lashes.  The eyelash extensions come off when your natural lash falls out, and so long as an appropriate weight extension has been applied, your natural lashes will grow through as normal. Please listen to the technicians’ advice about how long/heavy you should go if you have naturally thin or sparse lashes. Don’t try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself – as this could easily damage your natural lashes, as the adhesive bond is extremely strong.

Sometimes clients choose not to take our advice regarding the lashes and do request extra long and thick lashes be applied to their thin or fine natural lashes. We will advise against this as we cannot guarantee that they will last well if they are too long or heavy for your natural lash to support. We will apply the lashes that you request, within reason. Usually, as a one-off or special occasion wear, extra long or thick lashes will cause no problems at all, but long-term it can weaken your lashes.

How do I take care of my eyelash extensions so they last longer?

  • Don’t wet your eyelashes for 24-48 hours after your procedure. This will give the glue an appropriate amount of time to cure. This means you should also avoid steam rooms / saunas and swimming during that period.

  • Do not use mascara on your eyelashes. If you absolutely must, a water soluble mascara or one designed specifically for eyelash extensions is the only one you can use. You will find though that if you come to your next appointment with mascara clumped lashes, you won't get a quality refill, as we need to take extra time to clean the extensions and the natural lashes in preparation to re apply more and that cuts into your lashing time.

  • Use cotton swabs to remove makeup by working gently around the eyelashes.

  • Do not use cleansers, makeup removers, wipes or moisturisers that contain oil or solvents on your eyes, as these will compromise the bonding agent used to adhere your eyelashes, check listing on the back of the products.

  • Do not rub your eyes touch them as little as possible, instead you should get used to patting your eyes gently which is in fact much better for the eyelashes and the sensitive skin around the eyes.

  • Never pull your eyelash extension off as it will pull out your natural eyelash.  If you want them removed contact us for our professional eyelash removal service.

  • Do not perm or tint your eyelash extensions.

  • Do not use eyelash curlers on your eyelashes.

  • Brush your lashes every morning.

  • Do not apply pressure to your lashes for long periods of time eg; be careful when sleeping

  • Infills (refills of your lashes) should be booked every 2-3 weeks to keep your lashes looking full and amazing
